| This is a hobby about small cars that we race around tracks or collect in a case somewhere. At this scale it's not about getting every detail perfect. Heck, we can't even get the proportions right most of the time because of the constraints of a chassis. But we do care how it looks, or makes us feel when we drive it or look at it.
The newest creation from Mike Vitale, of MEV Originals, is modeled after the Ford MK IV (we show a 1/24 model, because we couldn't find a picture of the original). As with all his models, this one fits a Thunderjet chassis. It's a deviation from his usual Big Fin cars of the 50's, but that won't bother you people who expected more of the same. This car is just so darned appealing. Mike has outdone himself on this one, with fit and finish. Body is straight, screw posts are straight and drilled perfectly. Glass is fitted exactly, and is extremely thin, light, and clear. Paint is clean and durable. And this body mounts up low and perfect without any work. We can't see how you could get it any lower, even as a Fray car, and believe me, this should be a very popular Fray car. Speaking of racing, and that's what this body is, a race car, a lot of what makes a body race worthy is how low its profile is, and how it fits around the chasis. This is low, and tight, with very minimal weight above the gear plate or behind the rear screw post. There is plenty of room for srock T-jet wheels, or Fray wide ones, without resorting to a blade or grinder. One other factor is weight. Compared to a fullt hogged out Aurora Ferrari 250GT, Fray ready, this car is only .6 grams heavier, and it still has some hogging to be done, and some glass removed to make it a fair comparison. The only question may be, "How low can you go?" Car is priced right, too. An "as-is" version, which means you have to clean some flash and assemble, runs 415, $18 if Mike assembles it, and $24 if you want it with a chassis ang guide pin (Hint: get it with the chassis. That's a deal). Let me also point out how nice the price calculator is on the site, and you can see all the other great creations, in case you still have some of that Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket. |
